About

Makingitmumsway is my way of sharing knowledge passed on by our mums.

The idea started several years ago when I realised that my mum might pass away before teaching me how to make her fabulous shortbread.  I had looked at her recipe “card” and realised that I had no idea of how to proceed.  So with a tape based video camera and a small lapel microphone I made the first video.

Like all of my great ideas I intended to film her doing a range of her recipes but this didn’t happen.  We talked about filming her friends and with deep regret this didn’t happen either.  Life continued on.

Then in 2017, due to several health issues, my mum needed a carer. Luckily I was able to move into my childhood home and look after her.  Sadly she passed away in November 2018.

During the time I looked after her, we made a few more video clips and even when she was particularly unwell she helped me film a video on how to make pastry.  I have always wanted to share these videos and I have always wanted to make more.

In 2019 I became determined to expand the project and I started filming friends with their mums.  When I say “filming”, I should add that I only use an iphone on a tripod with a couple of lapel microphones.  It is not high tech.

In 2020 with time on my hands, I finally started putting the videos onto a Youtube channel and I started this web page.  I hope to add recipes as well as other tips and hints that mums pass onto their children.

I hope you enjoy meeting all the other mums.
